About Nicholas Martin
Heritage Meets Excellence in Vocal Coaching
Nicholas Martin is a professional tenor and vocal coach based in London. Known for his expressive performances and calm, reassuring teaching style, he helps singers of all ages discover their voice and grow in confidence.
Originally from Catalan Bay in Gibraltar, Nicholas has built his career on both artistry and teaching excellence. His journey has taken him from classical stages across Europe to his own studio in London, where he now guides students toward technical skill and creative freedom.
A Lifelong Passion for Music
Nicholas studied Music and Art at Canterbury Christ Church University, graduating with honours in 1999. Two years later, he completed a Master’s degree in Music Performance before continuing his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Professor Brian Parsons. There he was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Vocal Training, an experience that deepened his understanding of the human voice and the art of performance.
He often says that his education shaped him as much as his career on stage. “Every performance, every rehearsal, every class taught me something new about how the voice connects to emotion and expression,” he reflects.

From the Stage to the Studio
As a lyric tenor, Nicholas has performed widely across the United Kingdom and Europe. His work has appeared on Meridian Television, Gibraltar National Television, and Spanish Television. His voice has been described as “hauntingly expressive” and his performances noted for their honesty and warmth.
Fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese, Nicholas brings a unique connection to the Latin and Mediterranean repertoire, where his performances have received particular acclaim. Yet his interests have always extended beyond the stage. Teaching became a natural extension of his art — a way to share what he had learned and help others find their own musical identity.
Teaching Philosophy
The Nicholas Martin Singing School was founded on a simple belief: every person has a voice worth developing. Nicholas’s teaching combines professional performance experience with a patient and encouraging approach.
Lessons are shaped around each student’s goals, whether that means preparing for auditions, exploring vocal health, or simply learning to sing with confidence. Nicholas works on technique, breath control, posture, tone, and diction, but always connects these skills to personal expression and self-belief.
“My aim is to help each student feel comfortable and capable, to make singing something joyful and natural rather than intimidating,”
says Nicholas.
Students describe his sessions as both inspiring and practical — grounded in classical technique but open to contemporary styles including musical theatre, jazz, pop, and rock.
Professional Recognition and Collaborations
Nicholas’s reputation as a teacher has led to invitations to run vocal workshops and masterclasses at leading institutions including the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and other respected conservatories in the UK.
His ability to bridge the worlds of performance and pedagogy has earned him the trust of singers at every level, from beginners to professional performers seeking refinement.
